Expungement Clinic and Resource Fair with RI Public Defender’s office: August 5, CCRI, Newport
Sen. Dawn Euer and the Rhode Island Public Defender’s Office will host an expungement clinic and resource fair Wednesday, Aug. 5, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Community College of Rhode Island’s Newport County Campus, 1 John H. Chafee Blvd.
The event will offer people with criminal records an opportunity to learn about their rights, connect with community resources and speak with a public defender about whether they may qualify to have their records expunged.
“Support for Rhode Islanders with criminal convictions in their past, including legal expungement, not only helps these individuals rebuild full and productive lives, but also reduces recidivism while contributing to safer, healthier and more productive communities across our state,” said Euer (D-Dist. 13, Newport, Jamestown).
“I’m proud to work with the Public Defender’s Office and so many other wonderful organizations that do this important work,” she continued. “By bringing these resources together in one convenient location here in Newport, we can help people with criminal records successfully reintegrate into society.”
Participating organizations include the Aquidneck Island Adult Learning Center, CCRI, the Formerly Incarcerated Union of Rhode Island, Newport Mental Health, Sisters United for Freedom, Turning Around Ministries and the Women’s Resource Center.
