Elsa Won! Pet Lovers Choice Award for Rhode Island – On to Nationals!

Rhode Island has a new four-legged star to celebrate. Elsa, a rescue dog who made her journey from Mississippi to the Ocean State, has been named the Rhode Island winner of the Pet Lovers Choice Awards, capturing hearts with her playful spirit and undeniable charm.

Although her name Elsa, of Frozen fame was given to her in Mississippi, as she and her 8 siblings were found under a collapsed shed during an ice storm. For her human, Carol Anne Costa that name was an immediate connection to Elsa, the lioness from Born Free, and Elsa’s story carries the same spirit of resilience, freedom, and second chances. Now thriving in Rhode Island, Elsa has become a local favorite. This sweet mixed-breed pup is known for her love of people, food, beach days, and playtime—bringing joy wherever she goes.

With her long, leggy frame this striking brunette brings both personality and presence—giving Rhode Island’s Real Housewives a run for their money. Elsa will happily make time to hang out with RHORI, treats are required. She said she can leave the human in the car!

Elsa shares her new Ocean State life together with Carol, the Executive Director of the Senior Agenda Coalition of RI; they hope to turn this recognition into something bigger. “Our goal is to make Elsa an ambassador and advocate,” said Costa. “Not just for rescue animals and the humans who love them, but for the incredible people across Rhode Island who dedicate their lives to nonprofit and service work. There are so many unsung heroes here, and we want to shine a light on them.”

On to Nationals!

As the Rhode Island state winner, Elsa now advances to national consideration in the Pet Lovers Choice Awards. Supporters across the state are encouraged to rally behind her as she represents Rhode Island on a national stage.

With her inspiring journey and growing fan base, Elsa is more than a contender—she is a symbol of compassion, community, and the power of second chances.
