ART! Newport Art Museum added to Museums on US weekend program for Bank of America cardholders

The Newport Art Museum has been added to the Museums on Us Weekend coming up on June 6 + 7!
Museums on US is a program of Bank of America – offering free admission weekend to RISD Museum and the Providence Children’s Museum.
On view in Newport will be “Play/Pretend,” a cross-generational exhibition exploring how imagination shapes identity from childhood through adulthood.

From building blanket forts to inventing elaborate storylines for dolls and action figures, childhood play allows us to test roles and imagine new possibilities. As adults, that instinct evolves. We continue to construct narratives about who we are and how we are perceived. Play/Pretend traces this continuum between early imagination and adult self-construction, revealing play as a lifelong act of discovery.

The other two museums part of Bank of America’s program are the Providence Children’s Museum and the RI School of Design (RISD) Museum.

Over at the Providence Children’s Museum is “Maker Studio – Seed Science”. Every plant you’ve ever seen started as a little seed! So how do these little seeds become big plants? Join us and let’s learn and grow together!

And, at the RISD Museum is The Artistry and Reunion of Two Surimono Albums. The Artistry and Reunion of Two Surimono Albums explores the stories within two special albums of privately commissioned Japanese woodblock prints that were compiled in Japan the 1820s to 1830s. The surimono in these albums are sumptuous examples of woodblock printmaking accompanied by playful poems, offering us a window into Japan’s art and literary scene of the time. The Artistry and Reunion of Two Surimono Albums is sponsored by Bank of America.

Bank of America’s Museums on Us offers cardholders free general admission – during the first full weekend of every month – to cultural institutions across the United States.

Adjusted Museums on Us admission procedures, if applicable, can be found by locating and selecting a partner name on our Museums on Us map. Information posted here is updated on an ongoing basis.

Interested Bank of America customers/clients should review eligibility and terms prior to their visit.

Nearby Massachusetts museums are the New Bedford Whaling Museum and in Worcester, EcoTarium.

RINewsToday peeked ahead at the weather and there may be some rain-is-likely time this weekend – a great time to go indoors and exercise an artistic and cultural few opportunities for the little ones – and the big ones, too!
The addition of Newport Art Museum opens up the whole day to a planned good time!
