OLD PEOPLE $HIT

FOLKS, as I age, I find myself doing the OLD PEOPLE $HIT I said WAS NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN TO ME… but it is happening to me. Here are some examples: I drive like a little old bitty. I talk and talk to strangers in the grocery store checkout line (I can’t help myself) I wave to the trash guy EVERY WEEK. HE never waves back. I have endless hours of conversations WITH MYSELF. I pee when I sneeze. I don’t always know how to navigate technology. I can’t open applesauce jars no matter how hard I whack em on the counter… I need a special “jar opener thingy” now. I can’t always find my car in the mall parking lot after being in there for 2 hours.

I laugh LOUDLY at things no one else is laughing about at the movies. I plan my whole day around my morning constitution. I bring a sweater with me wherever I go “just in case”. I need the TV on really loud to hear it. I mute commercials when they come on. I have hair on my face that I do not understand. I turn the volume down on my car radio so I can see where I’m going. I talk REALLY, REALLY LOUD to people that don’t understand English. I now believe that walking is exercise. I don’t eat spicey foods past 5pm. I own… a squatty potty and I modify like hell at the gym when working out with the trainer. The list really does go on and on. Whatever.

As my face melts off my head little by little each decade, I just keep counting my blessings and talking to myself. Really… I’d rather have MY company than most people out in the world these days anyway. Everyone is smoking too much weed and drinking too much wine. They’re insane and emotionally unstable…

I’m just old. So, I say, OLD FARTS UNITE!!!!!  Let me know some of the crazy things you do now as an older person. Hell… at least we can still laugh. That’s positive!

Early morning walks on the beach as the waves crash

The whirring box fan at night as I drift off to sleep

Early morning bird songs as the sun comes up

The sounds of the first week of NFL football

Listening to a ballgame on a stoop or porch on a transistor radio

My best friend laughing at me
