September 11th Anniversary Remembrance Ceremony – Events Around Rhode Island


There are several events for Rhode Islanders to attend – from early morning to evening – as we remember the events of September 11, 2001:
Anniversary Remembrances – 5pm, September 11th:
The 9/11 Planning Committee of Dedicated Volunteers (Veterans’ Council, Cadets,  Scouts, Public Safety Officials) will host a modest remembrance ceremony marking the Twenty-fourth (24th) anniversary of those who lost their lives, survivors and honoring those first-responders in the tragic events of September 11, 2001.
Anyone able to participate or wanting to attend this public service observance, is welcome at the site of the JAYCEE Corridor and Arboretum at the Riverpoint Community Park –  110 Hay Street in W. Warwick (along the West Bay BikePath (Greenway).

The Ceremony is on Thursday, September 11th starting @ 5:00 PM and is being held under the Eagle Scout Trellis Entrance to the state Senator Roch Riverwalk.
In the event of rain, move to nearby pavilion.

Other Events on September 11th:

Sept. 11, 6am – Newport — 9/11 Remembrance Run 5K – Hosted by Navy MWR Newport, this event includes a 5K run and 1.5-mile walk, honoring and celebrating our fallen heroes. It takes place outside the John H. Chafee Fitness Center (Building 1109) at 6:00 AM. Participation requires valid base access

Sept 11, 8:30am – Scituate – Rhode Island State Police Headquarters, 311 Danielson Pike, Scituate – Gov. McKee to speak

Sept. 11, 9 to 11 am – Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery – 13th annual Remembrance – Conducted by the American Legion, Marine Corps League – Contact Bill Pennoyer – 398-2358, [email protected].

Sept. 11, at 10 am – East Providence City Hall, Plaza – Gov. Dan McKee, Lt. Gov Sabina Matos, Mayor Bob DaSilva, other dignataries to speak

Sept. 11, 10:28 am – Warwick – Service at Oakland Beach – Ground Zero survivor Judy Cobden will speak. Open to the public. Seating is limited. Bring a camp chair. Contact Camille Vella-Wilkinson [email protected] or call 738-1926.

Sept. 11, 5-6pm – West Warwick — 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony – A community ceremony will be held at Riverpoint Community Park (110 Hay Street, West Warwick), providing a moment of quiet reflection and tribute to those impacted by the tragic events of September 11.
