Juror’s Statement
Upon arrival in the gallery, I was amazed at the amount of creative work delivered. I was told there were 214 submitted for this open show. I am asked to celebrate the most ambitious and accomplished pieces both technically and intuitively inspired. Many additional pieces were considered for awards.

In this exhibition, I was looking for visual relationships. I searched for a connection to the non-objective while considering color, value, and composition resulting in a visually satisfying work of art in any medium. Something especially authentic that really surprised me… – Theresa Girard

First Place
Marjorie Jensen – â€Bad day in a small boat†oil

I was immediately impressed by the strength of this oil painting. I admired it for drawing my attention to the visual appeal and intensity. Its complexity is engaging and the forms are skillfully crafted. It shows an interesting and innovative way to construct and deconstruct in layers to complete this piece. It exuded such confidence in the execution of the medium, as it typified abstraction. I enjoyed the name as well, pretty accurate depiction. Powerful. – Theresa Girard
