Kenedy Chitolie, junior at The Wheeler School, named Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence Youth of the Year

A junior at The Wheeler School, she is a standout student with a passion for making a positive impact in the community

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence (BGCP) is proud to announce Kenedy Chitolie as its 2025 Youth of the Year, the organization’s highest honor awarded to an exceptional teen who demonstrates outstanding leadership, academic excellence, and a commitment to community service.

A junior at The Wheeler School, Kenedy has taken advantage of BGCP’s wide range of programs and credits the organization for transforming not only her academic journey, but also her understanding of her own capabilities.

“The Boys & Girls Club didn’t just give me a place to grow—it gave me the confidence to believe that my dreams were possible,” said Kenedy, 17. “And now, with the knowledge, skills, and drive I’ve gained, I’m ready to take the next step toward a future where I can use my talents to serve and uplift others, just as the Club has done for me.”

First introduced to BGCP during middle school, Kenedy hit her stride when the organization introduced her to its Brown Pre-College program, where she excelled in an Applied Cell Molecular Biology course that further fueled her interest in the musculoskeletal system. From there, she participated in the Club’s Entrepreneurship Program, which challenged her to think about community impact through the lens of innovation and service. Ultimately, her dream is to pursue a career in the field of orthopedic surgery.

In 2023, Kenedy became involved with BGCP’s Summer Youth Development Program, providing her an opportunity to lead younger Club members in activities designed to promote personal growth and teamwork. The experience inspired Kenedy to get involved with the organization’s After School Volunteer Program, where she helps members with their homework, and organizes games and art activities.

“My time at the Club wasn’t just about learning new skills, it was about mentorship and giving back,” adds Kenedy. “It allowed me to see firsthand how important it is to create a nurturing environment for young minds, just as the Club had done for me.”
