Business Beat: Mick Lamond, now CEO of Newport Restaurant Group
Lamond will oversee NRG’s Portfolio of hospitality operations and real estate holdings; Paul O’Reilly to remain as advisor and business development consultant
Newport Restaurant Group (NRG), an award-winning collection of unique restaurants and hospitality venues located throughout Rhode Island and Massachusetts, announced that Executive Vice President Mick Lamond has been promoted to president and chief executive officer. The transition is part of a planned, multi-year succession plan.
In his new position, Lamond will oversee NRG’s portfolio of hospitality operations which includes 17 unique experiences in 21 locations. Lamond replaces longtime CEO, Paul O’Reilly who will act as special advisor to Lamond, and will provide counsel on business development as NRG seeks to strategically expand its offerings.
“I am excited to take on the role of CEO at Newport Restaurant Group, and have been fortunate to participate in and experience its growth and success over the last 20 years,” said Mick Lamond, President and Chief Executive Officer, Newport Restaurant Group. “Working closely for so many years alongside Paul O’Reilly in a financial and operations role has allowed me to direct its evolution and truly embrace the vision that Paul and of the board share. I look forward to continued growth and success. My focus this year remains on elevating the NRG experience for our guests and employee owners.”
Lamond joined NRG as CFO in 2005, responsible for all financial functions of the company and its subsidiaries, as well as the management of the employee stock ownership plan (ESOP), which owns 100% of the company stock. Prior to joining NRG, Lamond was a principal at Tofias PC, one of New England’s largest regional accounting firms at the time.
“As we move forward with this anticipated transition, I am confident that Mick possesses the necessary leadership, vision, and financial acumen to drive the company forward in a thoughtful and strategic way,” said Paul O’Reilly, former president and CEO. “I look forward to exiting the daily oversight of the company, while still playing a vital role in its growth and direction.”
Lamond, a Cranston, Rhode Island resident, graduated from Bryant University with a bachelor of science in business administration concentrating in accounting and a master of science in taxation. He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA), RI Society of CPAs (RISCPA).
