BankRI’s “Holiday Giving Tree” at 22 branches. Pick a name. Shop. Return your present.
Now in its 27th year, the effort provides gifts for underprivileged children across the state
With the holidays right around the corner, Bank Rhode Island (BankRI) is getting a jump on its longstanding tradition brightening the season for underprivileged kids across the Ocean State.
On November 1, the bank begins its 27th Annual Holiday Giving Tree program at all 22 of its branch locations statewide, inviting the community to help make this year the biggest yet.
For the Holiday Giving Tree, BankRI has partnered with 16 local nonprofits who will make sure all gifts get into the hands of the children who need them most. Last year’s Giving Tree led to more than 7,500 gifts.
Through mid-December, all BankRI branches display a Holiday Giving Tree in their lobby, decorated with ornaments that feature the name, age, and holiday wish of a child served by that branch’s nonprofit partner. During the multi-week program, customers and community members can visit their local branch to select an ornament and donate a gift for that child. Once a gift is purchased, donors return to their branch and place the unwrapped present beneath the tree with the original ornament attached.
“At this special time of year, we want everyone – especially children – to be able to experience the magic of the season, no matter what their circumstances might be,” said Will Tsonos, BankRI’s President and CEO. “We know many Rhode Island families are struggling. Together as a community, we can bring the joy of the holidays to local children to make a meaningful difference.”
