RI Weekend Weather Wrap Sat/Sun, May 9/10, 2020
By Jack Donnelly, meteorologist
Saturday 5/9/20:
Low pressure flies through overnight with some light rain continuing and some actual snow in the western and northern areas of the state, but it should not amount to much more than a dusting. The snow is the result of a strong cold air push behind the low center, with high winds dragging in colder air from southeastern Canada. This will be reflected in cool afternoon highs in the upper 40’s with high winds chilling the air to feel much colder. Winds out of the west and northwest will be gusty, approaching 50 mph in some areas! More of a December day than May!
Sunday 5/10/20:

After Saturday’s fiasco, today will be an improvement. Still windy however, gusts over 30 mph in places, but temps will be about 10 degrees higher generally, afternoon highs in the upper 50’s from a low in the upper 30’s. Mostly sunny with some leftover stratocumulus during the day as high pressure settles in.
