To Do in RI: Inclusive playground to open at Johnston Memorial Park
The Town of Johnston will hold a Grand Opening of their new inclusive playground this Wednesday, August 7th at noon at Johnston Memorial Park, 1583 Hartford Ave, in Johnston.
Designed to provide an inclusive play environment for children of all abilities, the playground is being described as “a milestone event for the town, underscoring a commitment to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to play, learn, and grow in a supportive and stimulating environment”.
Children of all abilities, share the same desire and need to experience play that challenges them physically, supports their cognitive development, and fosters emotional and
social connections. The new inclusive playground will welcome children and adults of all abilities, providing a space where everyone can interact and play together.
In announcing the grand opening, Mayor Joseph Polisena, Jr. thanked Grieco Automotive Group for their generous donation and noted how their support has been instrumental in bringing this vision to life for the children of Johnston.
The newly acquired pieces for the accessible playground renovation include an accessible merry-go-
round and see-saw apparatuses, an upper body stationary cycle, a ground-level, individual-use sitting spin feature, an ASL communication board, and more.
The public is welcome to attend the grand opening which is one part of renovations planned at the park.
