ART! Providence Art Club hosts print exhibitions. SGCI printmaking conference in town.

Providence Art Club Hosts Important Print Shows

The Galleries of the Providence Art Club are mounting two significant printmaking exhibitions in conjunction with the Southern Graphics Council International printmaking conference “Verified by Proof” taking place in the capital city.

On view April 1 – 18 in the Club’s Maxwell Mays Gallery, a special show features selections from the Boston Printmakers North American Print Biennial 2023. In Mary Castelnovo Gallery, PAC Exhibiting Artist and award-winning printmaker Linda Behar is the focus of a solo exhibition. Alongside these shows, another exhibition in Dodge House Gallery also features print-based works by Paula Most and Ann Kelsey Thacher.

The Art Club’s galleries will be open late on Friday, April 5 until 8pm for the SGCI Print Hop, and will host public receptions on Sunday, April 7 from 2-4pm

The Boston Printmakers is a major force in the national printmaking community and their North American Print Biennial is one of the most important shows of its kind. The show, which was on view in 2023 at Boston University, was initially juried by Elizabeth Rudy, Curator of Prints at the Harvard Art Museums. The selection of pieces on view now at the Providence Art Club was selected by PAC Gallery Manager Michael Rose. Of the show, Rose says, “We are delighted to collaborate with Boston Printmakers and to bring this significant collection of prints by artists across the country to our galleries here in Providence. Making selections for the show was a difficult but highly enjoyable task.”

Alongside this show, in the Art Club’s intimate Mary Castelnovo Gallery, PAC Exhibiting Artist Member is the subject of an immersive 100 piece printmaking exhibition titled Infiniti Bonds: The Woman and The Vase. The show features figurative prints as well as an accompanying video by Behar, a Venezuelan-born artist who holds an MFA and teaches and exhibits extensively.

For more information about these exhibitions or to schedule an interview with participating artists, please contact Art Club Gallery Manager Michael Rose at 401-331-1114 ext.5, or via email at [email protected].
