ART! New exhibitions at Providence Art Club
New Exhibitions at Providence Art Club Open Sunday
The Galleries of the historic Providence Art Club will host three new exhibitions with celebratory opening receptions on Sunday, February 18 from 2-4pm. The exhibitions will feature college students from schools throughout the state as well as new artworks by three current Art Club members. The openings are free and open to the public, all are welcome.
On view in the Maxwell Mays Gallery, the Club will present its Third Biennial College Exhibition. Juried by Gallery Manager Michael Rose, the exhibition will include works by approximately 60 students affiliated with a variety of universities across Rhode Island. $1,000 in cash prizes will be awarded and one exhibitor will be selected for a solo exhibition in 2025.
Of the show, Rose says, “I was incredibly impressed by the quality of the works submitted for this show and it was a difficult selection process, but the art on view represents and exciting array of media and approaches and indicates the remarkable talent and vision of the young artists studying in the Ocean State right now. I am excited to welcome these artists to show with us.”
Alongside the Club’s College Show, PAC Member Lyn Hayden will be the subject of a mini-solo exhibition titled Bookcentric in the Mary Castelnovo Gallery featuring mixed media and three-dimensional works. Hayden earned her BA at Middlebury College and an MAE at RISD. In the Dodge House Gallery painter and retired architect Mary Dorsey Brewster will exhibit landscapes from the Camino Santiago alongside a series of vibrant photographs focused on maritime subjects by Wakefield resident Barbara Crane. Brewster will also have her studio in the historic Fleur de Lys building open during the February 18 reception.
