Rhode Island Weather for February 2, 2024 – John Donnelly
by John Donnelly, meteorologist
Groundhog Day 2/2/24:
An interesting weather phenomenon called a ‘Center Jump’ occurs when low pressure crosses the Appalachians, disappears due to conservation of angular momentum, then reappears off the Hatteras coast and generates some light rain for the NEUS in the process. This will occur tonight, so we’ll likely see some light rain during the early morning, maybe some mixed rain/snow in the RI snow belt, but models have trended warmer, so most likely rain. We will remain motley cloudy to overcast, something like a Groundhog Day event with every day over the last two weeks cloud covered…..
Morning lows in the low 30’s rising to afternoon highs in the low 40’s with a light northerly breeze.
There is low cloud cover predicted for Punxutawney, PA Friday, so Phil SHOULD predict an early Spring after not seeing his shadow. We’ll see.
It’s a “B” day!
