Wreaths Across America at the RI Veterans Cemetery needs volunteers – Tony Jones
by Tony Jones, contributing writer
While many of us are facing a remarkably busy December, I hope that you will consider volunteering for the upcoming Wreaths Across America wreath placement, which is happening December 16th at 11:45 am at the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery in Exeter, RI.
Volunteer sign-up can be done online, here: https://www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/pages/17129/Overview/?relatedId=161411
The act of laying a wreath is a small gesture, but it carries with it a profound message of respect and gratitude for those who have made many sacrifices. It is a poignant reminder that we owe our freedom to these brave individuals.
But volunteering for Wreaths Across America is not just about placing a wreath; it’s about spending a moment to remember and honor the life of a soldier. It’s about teaching the younger generation about the value of service. It’s about coming together as a community to show our appreciation.
Wreaths Across America relies heavily on volunteers to carry out its mission. Without the help of many dedicated individuals, it would be impossible to reach the hundreds of veterans’ cemeteries around the country.
I urge everyone to consider volunteering on December 16th, through the laying of remembrance wreaths and saying the name of each veteran aloud, it is a meaningful way to give back to those who have given so much.

Many THANKS for such great and thoughtful consideration .. to all Volunteers!
Ponaganset school system has been doing this for many years now. They do a truly magnificent job .
The effort of the students and faculty to instill in all through the WAA program to Remember, Honor and Teach is appreciated. Thank you Mike. You done good.
For many of the vets at the cemetery the laying of the wreath is the only time they are remembered, they have no family left to remember them.
Goff middle school is also a part of Rhode Islands WAA program
The faculity and students there are great. Thank you Mauria.
Wreaths should not be placed on non Christian graves. I hope you are all aware of this and act accordingly and with respect to other religious or atheistic belief. It is offensive to force Christian or pagan accoutrements on others and I hope respect is given to this and separation of church and state that is integral in our country’s military.
Hi, Deborah – volunteers are given instructions on wreath laying – here is a section which is a national instruction on the program that originated at Arlington National Cemetery:
“We ask volunteers not to lay wreaths on headstones marked with the Star of David, out of respect for Jewish traditions. However, please do not remove a wreath for any reason, in case a family has specifically placed it there.”
Thank you for your comment – Nancy
