PRAYING FOR THE WINNING TICKET

I don’t know if it’s wrong to ask God for money, BUT I do. Specifically, a winning lottery ticket worth MILLIONS. Sometimes I think “he’s kinda busy, Jen… with REAL WORLD ISSUES… SAVE IT”. Other times I think “well, he does say to ask, keep knocking…. pray without ceasing”.

For my entire life I’ve always thought I’m going to win and help my friends, family, and the community in some way, if I did win. I’d also finally be able to buy my little fixer upper home with a front porch for some rocking chairs and a little land. I don’t need a lot. I don’t want a lot. Many of you dream other big dreams like traveling the world, buying a killer car, or being able to buy clothes and jewelry and other stuff. My dreams are pretty simple. I ask God to open doors, protect me, guide me, and let me pick the winning numbers for a huge lottery win. I’m getting older now. I want enough  to be able to buy a home. If your dreams have come true, I’M SO HAPPY FOR YOU. Maybe in your down time you could sneak in a prayer for me. Some days I get so discouraged, but mostly I stay hopeful. Hey, if God doesn’t want me to have a bazillion dollars, ok, I’m ok with that. 

I’ll just take a good paying radio gig. That’ll work too. 

Keep your dreams alive. You never know when your ship may come in…

A SAD SIGN OF THE TIMES

A survey from the Federal Reserve reveals 28% of respondents went without some form of medical care in 2022 because it was too expensive. That number was up four percent year over year. Americans were most likely to skip dental care, followed by a doctor’s visit and prescription meds. They also didn’t schedule follow up visits and mental health counseling. The US spends more on health care than any other high income country in the world but ranks at the bottom on many significant health metrics.

ANOTHER SUMMER STAPLE HIT BY INFLATION

Seems we just can’t catch a break these days. Topping our burgers and dogs this grilling season will cost us more. Yup, condiments are the last item hit by inflation. Ketchup’s up the most in price (supposedly because it’s been a bad tomato growing season), going up 28% from a year ago, while mustard costs 13% more. Even relish is up 12%. The good news is the cost of beef is only up 1% from last May.

YOU’RE GONNA NEED A BIGGER BOAT

Migration is sending sharks into the waters off Long Island, New York, and New Jersey. Four great white sharks have been detected this month near Long Island’s South Shore and New Jersey. The sharks are making their annual migration from the Florida Keys and according to OCEARCH, the predators are heading north for the rich feeding grounds this season. The research group captures the sharks and fits each creature with a tracker and then safely releases them back into the water. Enjoy that swim as Rhode Island beaches open up!

PAINFUL POST SEASON

Boston fans took a one-two playoff punch with both the favored Boston Bruins and Celtics bounced from post season play. As painful as it was for Boston fans, think of the pain for the networks airing the finals for both the NHL and NBA. The Las Vegas Knights will battle the Florida Panthers for Lord Stanley’s cup while the NBA will feature the Denver Nuggets and Miami Heat. CLICK!

Ron has programmed, performed on and managed WHJJ, WPRO, WWRX, 790 The Score in Providence, as well as WBZT and WKGR in West Palm Beach and WABC in New York City. Ron also anchored sports on WPRI Ch 12 in Providence. He is a member of both the Rhode Island Radio and Television and the City of Pawtucket Halls of Fame. He was born and raised in Pawtucket.

Jen Brien has over 20 years of radio broadcast experience having hosted shows on WPRO and WHJJ with Ron as well as her own shows on WRKO and WBZ in Boston, WXTK on Cape Cod and WHAM in Rochester, New York. Jen was born and raised in Woonsocket and served six years in the Army MP Canine Unit.

Hazel, Ron’s dog, makes regular appearances.
