Own the Dream: 5 Steps to Buying a Home – free Virtual Workshop for New Homebuyers

June is National Homeownership Month and Bank Rhode Island (BankRI) and Pawtucket Central Falls Development (PCF Development) are partnering to offer a no-cost, virtual workshop for new homebuyers. Anyone interested is encouraged to attend.

Titled, “Own the Dream: 5 Steps to Buying a Home,” the educational session will be held live on Zoom on Tuesday, June 6 beginning at 5:30 p.m. To attend, participants are asked to register in advance online at https://qrco.de/owningthedream. The workshop is the second hosted jointly by BankRI and PCF Development this spring, coming on the heels of an April class attended by more than 40 participants.

During the June 6 workshop, attendees will learn insights from experts from BankRI and PCF Development. The session will focus on five of the most important steps to buying a first home – credit and finances, debt to income ratio, the mortgage process, and closing costs and related expenses. There will also be dedicated time for a Q&A session. The workshop will be led by PCF Development’s Executive Director, Linda Weisinger, and Dianny Melusky, the organization’s Director of Homeownership, along with BankRI Mortgage Specialists, Kathy Galipeau and Stephanie Silva.

“We have been thrilled with the interest and response to these workshops – having the opportunity to share our knowledge and help others realize the dream of homeownership is so important to us,” said Stephanie Silva.

“No matter where you might be in the process of buying your first home, this is a session that not only offers a lot of important information, but also connects attendees to those of us who can be resources during their homebuying journey,” added Kathy Galipeau. “And the best part is that it’s open to all.”

PCF Development is a nonprofit community development organization dedicated to neighborhood revitalization and creating high-quality, affordable housing. They have constructed more than 300 rental units and 150 homeownership units in Providence County since 1990, and currently have homes for sale below median market price. Along with creating homes, PCF Development focuses on homeownership education, financial coaching and credit counseling, and post-purchase training.
