Rhode Island Weather for March 20, 2023 – 1st day of Spring! – John Donnelly
by John Donnelly, meteorologist
A clear and very dry Monday. Temperature ranges should be right in the mid March wheelhouse, morning lows in the upper 20’s to around 30, and afternoon highs trying to get to 50. We’ll have a light west-southwesterly breeze gusting to 25 mph at times during the afternoon. Lots of bright sun, and the gov’t has been issuing fire danger warnings, so keep the bonfires to a minimum, please.
Also, the vernal equinox occurs at exactly 5:24pm – Sun’s rays directly over the Equator.
Spring is here!

John Donnelly was born in Hialeah, Florida and moved back to Rhode Island and settled in Johnston, where he grew up until graduating from Lyndon State College in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology. As a child John always wanted to know how air moved, and he ran towards, not away from, thunder and lighting and various other ominous weather phenomena. He returned in 2001 to the old family neighborhood of Elmhurst.
