Who wants to be a candidate? A lot of us… (updated)
As we go to publication, and the 4:30pm deadline yesterday passed, 3,149 people put their names in to run for office in Rhode Island.
The breakdown in broad numbers:
2,078 Democrats
702 Republicans
139 Independents
1 Compassion Party
5 Libertarian Party
1 Moderate Party
217 Non-Partisan offices with party affiliation, if known, not listed
Candidates for Governor: 11 people will run for Governor – they are:
Lt. Governor – 6 Candidates:
US Congress – Dist. 2 – replacing Rep. James Langevin: 10 candidates
There are some surprises, such as Bob Lancia withdrawing from the race for Congress which clears the way for Allan Fung as a strong front runner.
Check out your favorite candidate or office or your city or town to see all the candidates from school committee to mayor to city/town council and statewide.
Note: Some candidates filed at their city/town local offices and those filings may not yet be recorded into the Secretary of State’s database. The large Excel list, posted here – will be updated throughout the day to reflect those additional filings. A final list should be posted on Friday.
Here is an easy to use searchable database – give it a try, or opt for the full Excel Spreadsheet, below that:
