Big turnout for Rhode Island’s Torch Run Truck Convoy for Special Olympics
Last week nearly fifty trucks from over thirty trucking companies took part in Rhode Island’s first Torch Run Truck Convoy® for Special Olympics.
Co-hosted by Special Olympics Rhode Island, the Rhode Island Trucking Association and various municipal and state enforcement agencies, the convoy began at the IGT Headquarters parking lot in West Greenwich led by a police escort, drove up Route 95 to Route 146 through Providence and returned to West Greenwich via Route 95.
Special Olympics athletes made the call for driver to roll at 9:00am and, after looping the state, participants enjoyed complimentary full breakfast provided by Twin Catering and, upon their return to the starting point, lunch courtesy Dan’s Place.

“Today was a perfect day to showcase our industry’s pride and professionalism in support of a great cause,” said Chris Maxwell, President of the Rhode Island Trucking Association. “I am grateful to all who participated and made this year’s event a success.”
An international awareness and fundraising event, the Truck Convoy® is a unique partnership between law enforcement and truckers to raise funds for Special Olympics so athletes can continue to train in year-round sports and health-related activities. All proceeds raised by today’s convoy will go to Special Olympics Rhode Island and enable Rhode Island athletes to train and compete free of charge.
