Your RI Weather Today, Feb. 23, 2022 – John Donnelly

by John Donnelly, meteorologist

Another abnormally warm day thanks to the strong and persistent southwesterly flow over the last couple of days. This too shall end however, as a cold front that means it sweeps through in the afternoon and causes a significant drop in temperatures and change in wind direction.

Balmy highs in the low 60’s fall about 5 degrees per hour behind the front late evening lows in the low 30’s, and winds shift from southwesterly to northwesterly and begin to taper.

A small line of showers is possible as the front passes between 3-5pm.

John Donnelly was born in Hialeah, Florida and moved back to Rhode Island and settled in Johnston, where he grew up until graduating from Lyndon State College in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology. As a child John always wanted to know how air moved, and he ran towards, not away from, thunder and lighting and various other ominous weather phenomena. He returned in 2001 to the old family neighborhood of Elmhurst where the McCabe’s, Donnelly’s, Walker’s and Callan’s have been since after the Civil War.
