“Ron & Jen’s Great Escape” – 1-12-2022 – Ron St. Pierre & Jen Brien
by Ron St. Pierre & Jen Brien, commentary
RUBIK’S CUBE
This year on Christmas I had so much fun! It’s been awhile. It was fun because it was simple! Sometimes life is a grind, or you go thru a “season” as folks in my church say…. For every up, there’s a down, etc, etc… you get my drift.
I’d say ALL of us over the past two years have been through it personally and have watched our society go through some serious political and cultural growing pains. A lot of what we see out in the world when we leave our homes can be irritating or confusing. Many people don’t feel they can trust the media now. Others are out there fighting for what they believe in, and still many just aren’t paying attention. From the solitude of their homes, they wait. Waiting for the chance to speak through their vote and waiting to see how EVERYTHING will all shake out. Now I say all that’s to say – in the middle of the storm – go play Checkers or try your hand at the game of “Trouble”!
Things can get super intense, so fight for your slice of peace. Grab a board game, light a fire, dust off the record player and do a jig in your living room, or, bust out old faithful. THE RUBIKS CUBE. Less is more, friends. Less is more. It always has been.
IS THIS WHAT FRIENDS ARE FOR?
Don’t EVER believe a pro-athlete when they say, “it’s not about the money.” It’s ALWAYS about the money. Case in hand, this past Sunday’s Tampa Bay Bucs 41-17 win over Carolina. With the victory long sealed, Bucs QB Tom Brady refused to leave the game, ignoring Head Coach Bruce Arians signal that back up Blaine Gabbet would be going in. Brady wanted to make sure his favorite target, Rob Gronkowski, hit a contract incentive that paid him $500,000 if he grabbed 55 receptions on the year.
DRY SPELL
A UK study, which likely holds true across the pond, says most folks who embrace Dry January, let go LONG before the 31 days have fallen off the calendar. 50% of adults will give up at the end of this week… January 16th to be exact.
THIS IS CNN
CNN is apparently standing by Andy Cohen’s drunken New Year’s Eve rant much to the chagrin of many of the network’s employees. In case you missed it – and judging by the ratings most of you did – Cohen, who co-hosted with his pal, Captain Boring Anderson Cooper, went off on outgoing New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg and Ryan Seacrest and Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve. Employees of CNN are supposedly livid. “We claim to be the most trusted network in news, yet CNN hires Andy Cohen to make a fool out of all of us with his New Year’s performance?” Yea, that’s about right. How about a new slogan? CNN… Shaken Not Stirred.
ON THE MOVE
According to United Van Lines 45th ANNUAL NATIONAL MOVERS STUDY (their offices are adjacent to the American Egg Board) Vermont is the state where most people moved to in 2021, with 74% of moves in that state being inbound. Shockingly, Rhode Island comes in 10th on this list! On the flip side… no shock… for the 4th consecutive year people are fleeing the state of New Jersey with 71% of those on the move putting the Garden State firmly in their rear view mirror.
